"There are three whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look at them, and for them is a painful punishment: a man who swore an oath concerning the property of a Muslim and thereby took it unlawfully; a man who swore an oath after the ʿAṣr prayer that he had been offered for his merchandise more than what he was actually offered, while he was lying; and a man who withheld his surplus water. Indeed Allah, Glorified and Exalted, says: Today I withhold My bounty from you, just as you withheld the surplus of what your hands did not make."

machine translationAl-Aʿmash narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. ʿAbd al-Wāḥid b. Ziyād, Jarīr b. ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd, ʿAlī b. Mushir, Jarīr b. Ḥāzim, al-Thawrī and Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh narrated it from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Hurayrah. Ṣāliḥ b. Abī al-Aswad differed from them and narrated it from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ẓabyān, from Abū Hurayrah. The correct (ṣaḥīḥ) version is the hadith of Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Hurayrah, and likewise ʿAmr b. Dīnār and Abū Hishām al-Rummānī narrated it from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Hurayrah.
