He mentioned that a man from the Children of Israel asked another man from the Children of Israel to lend him a thousand dinars. He said: "Bring me witnesses so that I may have them witness against you." He said: "God suffices as a witness." He said: "Then bring me a guarantor." He said: "God suffices as a guarantor." So he handed it over to him for a set term. Then he set out on the sea and settled his need, then he looked for a ship to carry him back by the term he had set, but he found no ship. So he took a piece of wood and hollowed it out, put the dinars into it along with a letter from him to its owner, then sealed its opening. Then he brought it to the sea and said: "O God, You know that I borrowed a thousand dinars from so-and-so, and he asked me for a guarantor, so I said: 'God suffices as a guarantor,' and he was satisfied with You. And he asked me for witnesses, so I said: 'God suffices as a witness,' and he was satisfied with You. I strove to find a ship by which to send him what is his, but I found no ship, and I entrust it to You." Then he threw it into the sea until it went deep into it. Then he went away, and all the while he was still looking for a ship to take him to his town. Meanwhile the man who had lent him went out, hoping that a ship had come with his money, and there was the piece of wood. He took it for his family as firewood. When he split it, he found the money and the letter. Then the man arrived and came to him with a thousand dinars. He said: "By God, I kept striving to find a ship to bring you your money, but I found no ship before the one I came on." He said: "Did you send me anything?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then God, Mighty and Majestic, has paid it on your behalf, so go back with your thousand dinars rightly guided."
