( أَخْبَرَنَا ) أَبُو حَازِمٍ: عُمَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْعَبْدَوِيُّ الْحَافِظُ، ثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الْحَافِظُ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ: عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْأَشْعَثِ السِّجِسْتَانِيُّ، بِبَغْدَادَ، ثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحَلَبِيُّ، بِأَنْطَاكِيَةَ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنِ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ خُرَيْقٍ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ:
خَرَجْنَا فِي سَفَرٍ فَأَصَابَ رَجُلًا مِنَّا حَجَرٌ فَشَجَّهُ فِي رَأْسِهِ، ثُمَّ احْتَلَمَ فَسَأَلَ أَصْحَابَهُ: هَلْ تَجِدُونَ لِي رُخْصَةً فِي التَّيَمُّمِ ؟ فَقَالُوا: مَا نَجِدُ لَكَ رُخْصَةً وَأَنْتَ تَقْدِرُ عَلَى الْمَاءِ. فَاغْتَسَلَ فَمَاتَ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أُخْبِرَ بِذَلِكَ فَقَالَ: قَتَلُوهُ قَتَلَهُمُ اللهُ، أَلَا سَأَلُوا إِذْ لَمْ يَعْلَمُوا، إِنَّمَا شِفَاءُ الْعِيِّ السُّؤَالُ، إِنَّمَا كَانَ يَكْفِيهِ أَنْ يَتَيَمَّمَ وَيَعْصِبَ عَلَى جُرْحِهِ خِرْقَةً، ثُمَّ يَمْسَحَ عَلَيْهَا وَيَغْسِلَ سَائِرَ جَسَدِهِ

Indeed the cure for ignorance is asking. It would have sufficed him to perform tayammum, bind a piece of cloth over his wound, then wipe over it and wash the rest of his body."
