(And) Abū ʿAbdillāh al-Ḥāfiẓ informed us: ʿAlī b. Muḥammad b. Sakhtawayh narrated to me: Ismāʿīl b. Qutaybah and Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Salām narrated to us, both saying: Yaḥyā b. Yaḥyā narrated to us: Sufyān informed us, and he mentioned it. Muslim narrated it in the Ṣaḥīḥ from Yaḥyā b. Yaḥyā and others. Thus Sālim b. ʿAbdillāh narrated from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ, the story of the date palms and the slave together. Nāfiʿ differed from him, and narrated the story of the date palms from Ibn ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ, and the story of the slave from Ibn ʿUmar, from ʿUmar.

machine translationWe do not know anyone who said in this hadith, "from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from his father, from ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ" except Sufyān b. Ḥusayn, and he made an error in it. The memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) narrate it from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from Ibn ʿUmar, from the Prophet ﷺ, and that is the correct version.
