حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي تَرُدُّهُ الْأُكْلَةُ وَالْأُكْلَتَانِ أَوِ التَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ وَلَكِنِ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي لَا يَسْأَلُ [النَّاسَ] شَيْئًا وَلَا يُفْطَنُ بِمَكَانِهِ فَيُعْطَى.

Translation

✧ The poor person is not the one who is turned away by a morsel or two, or a date or two, but the poor person is the one who does not ask people for anything and is not noticed for his situation so that he may be given charity.
