حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ بَيَّاعِ الْمُلَاءِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ وَقَلِيلٌ مِنَ الآخِرِينَ شَقَّ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ، فَنَزَلَتْ ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الأَوَّلِينَ وَثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الآخِرِينَ فَقَالَ: أَنْتُمْ ثُلُثُ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ، بَلْ أَنْتُمْ نِصْفُ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَتُقَاسِمُونَهُمُ النِّصْفَ الْبَاقِيَ.

✧ When the verse 'A multitude of the former peoples, and a few of the latter peoples' was revealed, that was hard on the Muslims. Then the verse 'A multitude of the former peoples, and a multitude of the latter peoples' was revealed. So he said: 'You are a third of the people of Paradise, rather you are half of the people of Paradise, and you will share the remaining half with them.'
