حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْجُلَاسِ عُقْبَةُ بْنُ سَيَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ شَمَّاخٍ قَالَ
شَهِدْتُ مَرْوَانَ سَأَلَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ كَيْفَ سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي عَلَى الْجِنَازَةِ ؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبُّهَا وَأَنْتَ خَلَقْتَهَا، وَأَنْتَ هَدَيْتَهَا لِلْإِسْلَامِ، وَأَنْتَ قَبَضْتَ رُوحَهَا، وَأَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِسِرِّهَا وَعَلَانِيَتِهَا، جِئْنَا شُفَعَاءَ فَاغْفِرْ لَهَا

✧ I witnessed Marwan asking Abu Hurayrah, 'How did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray over the funeral?' Abu Hurayrah said: 'O Allah, You are its Lord, and You created it, and You guided it to Islam, and You took its soul, and You know best its secret and its open affairs. We have come as intercessors, so forgive it.'
