حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ضَمْضَمُ بْنُ جَوْسٍ الْهِفَّانِيُّ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ

كَانَ فِي بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ رَجُلَانِ أَحَدُهُمَا مُجْتَهِدٌ فِي الْعِبَادَةِ وَالْآخَرُ مُسْرِفٌ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ، وَكَانَا مُتَآخِيَيْنِ، فَكَانَ الْمُجْتَهِدُ لَا يَزَالُ يَرَى عَلَى الْآخَرِ ذَنْبًا فَيَقُولُ: وَيْحَكَ أَقْصِرْ، فَيَقُولُ الْمُذْنِبُ: خَلِّنِي وَرَبِّي

Translation

  5. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ There were two men among the Children of Israel, one of whom was diligent in worship and the other was extravagant against himself, and they were brothers. The diligent one kept seeing a sin on the other, so he would say, 'Woe to you, refrain!' and the sinner would say, 'Leave me and my Lord.'
