✧ Yuḥannas and Ṣafiyyah were among the captives of the fifth. Ṣafiyyah committed adultery with a man from the fifth and gave birth to a boy. The adulterer and Yuḥannas both claimed the child, and they brought their dispute to ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, who referred them to ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib. ʿAlī said: I judge between them by the judgment of the Messenger of God ﷺ: the child belongs to the bed, and the stone is for the adulterer. And he had them lashed fifty lashes each.
