حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ أَخْبَرَنِي عِيَاضُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي سَرْحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ، فَذَكَرَ الْإِيمَانَ بِاللهِ وَالْجِهَادَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ مِنْ أَفْضَلِ الْأَعْمَالِ عِنْدَ اللهِ. قَالَ: فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ وَأَنَا صَابِرٌ مُحْتَسِبٌ مُقْبِلٌ غَيْرُ مُدْبِرٍ ؟ كَفَّرَ اللهُ عَنِّي خَطَايَايَ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: فَكَيْفَ قُلْتَ ؟ قَالَ: فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلَ كَمَا قَالَ، قَالَ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: فَكَيْفَ قُلْتَ ؟ قَالَ: فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلَ أَيْضًا، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قُتِلْتُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ صَابِرًا مُحْتَسِبًا مُقْبِلًا غَيْرَ مُدْبِرٍ كَفَّرَ اللهُ عَنِّي خَطَايَايَ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، إِلَّا الدَّيْنَ، فَإِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ [عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ] سَارَّنِي بِذَلِكَ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to address the people and mentioned faith in Allah and jihad in the way of Allah as being among the best deeds in the sight of Allah. He said: A man stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me, if I am killed in the way of Allah while I am patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, will Allah expiate my sins?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'How did you say?' He said: He repeated the words as he had said. He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'How did you say?' He said: He repeated the words again. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, tell me, if I am killed in the way of Allah, patient, seeking reward, advancing and not retreating, will Allah expiate my sins?' He said: 'Yes, except for debt, for Jibril ﷺ told me that in secret.'
