حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْأَصَمُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ السُّدِّيَّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ يَذْكُرُهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ
لَمَّا تُوُفِّيَ أَبُو طَالِبٍ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَقُلْتُ: إِنَّ عَمَّكَ الشَّيْخَ قَدْ مَاتَ، قَالَ: اذْهَبْ، فَوَارِهِ، ثُمَّ لَا تُحْدِثْ شَيْئًا حَتَّى تَأْتِيَنِي، قَالَ: فَوَارَيْتُهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ، قَالَ: اذْهَبْ، فَاغْتَسِلْ، ثُمَّ لَا تُحْدِثْ شَيْئًا حَتَّى تَأْتِيَنِي، قَالَ: فَاغْتَسَلْتُ، ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ، قَالَ: فَدَعَا لِي بِدَعَوَاتٍ مَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنَّ لِي بِهَا حُمْرَ النَّعَمِ وَسُودَهَا

✧ When Abu Talib died, I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: Your elderly uncle has died. He said: Go and bury him, then do not do anything until you come to me. He said: So I buried him, then came to him. He said: Go and perform ghusl, then do not do anything until you come to me. He said: So I performed ghusl, then came to him. He said: Then he offered supplications for me that would please me more than having red camels and black ones.

Abī al-ʿAbbās narrated it from al-Ḥasan b. Yazīd b. al-Aṣamm, from al-Suddī, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī, from ʿAlī. Ḥātim b. al-Layth narrated it from Ibrāhīm b. Abī al-ʿAbbās, from al-Ḥasan b. Yazīd, from al-Suddī, from Saʿd b. ʿUbaydah, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿAlī, adding Saʿd b. ʿUbaydah in it. This is an error (wahm), and the first version is more correct.
