✧ Abu Hurayrah stayed with us in al-Kufah. He said: And between him and our mawla there was kinship. Sufyan said: They are mawali of Ahmas. So Ahmas gathered. Qays said: We came to him to greet him, and Sufyan once said: The tribe came to him. My father said to him: O Abu Hurayrah, these are your kinsfolk; they have come to greet you, and you should narrate to them from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: Welcome to them and greetings. I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for three years, during which I was not more eager to memorize hadith than I was in those years, until I heard him say: By Allah, for one of you to take a rope and gather firewood on his back, then eat from it and give charity, is better for him than to come to a man whom Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has enriched from His bounty and ask him, whether he gives him or refuses him.
