حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ بْنُ النَّجَّارِ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

حَاجَّ آدَمُ مُوسَى فَقَالَ: يَا آدَمُ، أَنْتَ الَّذِي أَخْرَجْتَ النَّاسَ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ بِذَنْبِكَ وَأَشْقَيْتَهُمْ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ لَهُ آدَمُ: أَنْتَ الَّذِي اصْطَفَاكَ اللهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ بِرِسَالَاتِهِ وَكَلَامِهِ، فَتَلُومُنِي عَلَى أَمْرٍ كَتَبَهُ اللهُ عَلَيَّ - أَوْ قَدَّرَهُ عَلَيَّ - قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْلُقَنِي ؟ ! قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: فَحَجَّ آدَمُ مُوسَى

Translation

✧ Adam and Moses argued. Moses said: 'O Adam, you are the one who brought people out of Paradise by your sin and made them wretched.' Adam said to him: 'You are the one whom Allah chose over people with His messages and His speech. Do you blame me for a matter Allah wrote for me—or decreed for me—before He created me?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'So Adam refuted Moses.'
