حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ

لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي تَرُدُّهُ التَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ وَالْأُكْلَةُ وَالْأُكْلَتَانِ. قَالُوا: فَمَنِ الْمِسْكِينُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: الَّذِي لَا يَجِدُ غِنًى، وَلَا يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ بِحَاجَتِهِ فَيُتَصَدَّقَ عَلَيْهِ

Translation

✧ The poor person is not the one who is turned away by a date or two dates, or a morsel or two morsels. They said: Then who is the poor person, O Messenger of God? He said: The one who finds no sufficiency, and people do not know of his need so that charity may be given to him.
