حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

لَمْ تَحِلَّ الْغَنَائِمُ لِقَوْمٍ سُودِ الرُّؤُوسِ قَبْلَكُمْ، كَانَتْ تَنْزِلُ النَّارُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فَتَأْكُلُهَا. فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ أَسْرَعَ النَّاسُ فِي الْغَنَائِمِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَوْلا كِتَابٌ مِنَ اللهِ سَبَقَ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَا أَخَذْتُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ فَكُلُوا مِمَّا غَنِمْتُمْ حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا

Translation

✧ War booty was not lawful for any people with black heads before you. Fire used to descend from the sky and consume it. On the day of Badr, people hastened to take booty, so Allah, mighty and majestic, revealed: 'Had it not been for a previous decree from Allah, a severe punishment would have touched you for what you took. So eat of what you have taken as booty, lawful and good.'
