حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

إِنَّ أَفْضَلَ الصَّدَقَةِ مَا تَرَكَ غِنًى. تَقُولُ امْرَأَتُكَ: أَطْعِمْنِي وَإِلَّا فَطَلِّقْنِي، وَيَقُولُ خَادِمُكَ: أَطْعِمْنِي وَإِلَّا فَبِعْنِي وَيَقُولُ وَلَدُكَ: إِلَى مَنْ تَكِلُنِي. قَالُوا: يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، هَذَا شَيْءٌ قَالَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ؟ أَمْ هَذَا مِنْ كِيسِكَ؟ قَالَ: [لَا] بَلْ هَذَا مِنْ كِيسِي

Translation

  5. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ The best charity is that which leaves one wealthy. Your wife says: Feed me or divorce me. Your servant says: Feed me or sell me. Your child says: To whom do you entrust me? They said: O Abu Hurayrah, is this something the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, or is this from your own pocket? He said: [No], rather this is from my own pocket.
