✧ When Allah granted His Messenger ﷺ victory over Makkah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among them, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said: Allah held back the elephant from Makkah and gave authority over it to His Messenger and the believers. It was made lawful for me only for an hour of the day, then it is sacred until the Day of Resurrection. Its trees shall not be cut, its game shall not be startled, and its lost property is not lawful except for one who announces it. If someone has a relative killed, he has the better of two options: either ransom or execution. A man from the people of Yemen called Abu Shah stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, write it down for me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Write it down for Abu Shah. Abbas stood up, or he said: Abbas said: O Messenger of Allah, except for the idhkhir, for it is for our graves and houses. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Except for the idhkhir.
