✧ ʿAbdullāh divorced his wife while she was menstruating, a single divorce, in the time of the Messenger of God ﷺ. ʿUmar said: "O Messenger of God, ʿAbdullāh divorced his wife with a single divorce while she was menstruating." The Messenger of God ﷺ commanded him to take her back and keep her until she becomes pure, then menstruates another menstrual period in his house, then he should give her respite until she becomes pure from her menses. Then if he wants to divorce her, let him divorce her when she becomes pure before he has intercourse with her. That is the waiting period by which God Almighty commanded women to be divorced. And ʿAbdullāh, when asked about that, would say to one of them: "As for you, if you divorced your wife once or twice, the Messenger of God ﷺ commanded me regarding it [with the above]. But if you divorced her three times, she has become forbidden to you until she marries another husband, and you have disobeyed God Almighty in what He commanded you regarding divorcing your wife."
