حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو جَنَابٍ يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي حَيَّةَ عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ
لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا وَمَا صَاحِبُ الدِّينَارِ وَالدِّرْهَمِ بِأَحَقَّ مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ، ثُمَّ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا بِأَخَرَةٍ الْآنَ وَلَلدِّينَارُ وَالدِّرْهَمُ أَحَبُّ إِلَى أَحَدِنَا مِنْ أَخِيهِ الْمُسْلِمِ

✧ I have seen us when the owner of a dinar or dirham was no more deserving than his Muslim brother. Then I have seen us lately now, and the dinar and dirham are dearer to any of us than his Muslim brother.
