حَدَّثَنَا مُعَمَّرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الرَّقِّيُّ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ قُرَادٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ
خُيِّرْتُ بَيْنَ الشَّفَاعَةِ أَوْ يَدْخُلُ نِصْفُ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ، فَاخْتَرْتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ لِأَنَّهَا أَعَمُّ وَأَكْفَى، أَتُرَوْنَهَا لِلْمُنَقَّيْنَ ؟ لَا، وَلَكِنَّهَا لِلْمُتَلَوِّثِينَ الْخَطَّاءُونَ.

✧ I was given the choice between intercession or that half of my ummah would enter Paradise, and I chose intercession because it is more general and sufficient. Do you think it is for the purified? No, rather it is for the defiled, the sinners.
