حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا سَالِمٌ أَبُو جُمَيْعٍحَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ

وَذَكَرَ عُثْمَانَ وَشِدَّةَ حَيَائِهِ فَقَالَ: إِنْ كَانَ لَيَكُونُ فِي الْبَيْتِ، وَالْبَابُ عَلَيْهِ مُغْلَقٌ، فَمَا يَضَعُ عَنْهُ الثَّوْبَ لِيُفِيضَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ، يَمْنَعُهُ الْحَيَاءُ أَنْ يُقِيمَ صُلْبَهُ

Translation

Chain of narrators

  2. Sālim Abū Jumayʿḥaddathanā al-Ḥasan

✧ He mentioned Uthman and his extreme modesty and said: "He would be in the house with the door closed upon him, and he would not remove his garment to pour water over himself; modesty prevented him from straightening his back."
