✧ Abdullah b. Umar met people who had come out from Marwan's presence. He said: "Where have these people come from?" They said: "We have come out from the presence of the amir, Marwan." He said: "And did you see every right thing and speak about it and help it, and see every wrong thing and reject it and refute it to him?" They said: "No, by Allah, rather he says what is wrong and we say: 'You have done well, may Allah set you right.' Then when we come out from his presence we say: 'May Allah fight him, how unjust and wicked he is!'" Abdullah said: "In the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ we used to count this as hypocrisy for one who was like that."
