حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي زَمَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ: رَسُولُ اللهِ خَيْرُ النَّاسِ، ثُمَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ثُمَّ عُمَرُ. وَلَقَدْ أُوتِيَ ابْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ثَلَاثَ خِصَالٍ، لَأَنْ تَكُونَ لِي وَاحِدَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ حُمْرِ النَّعَمِ: زَوَّجَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ابْنَتَهُ وَوَلَدَتْ لَهُ، وَسَدَّ الْأَبْوَابَ إِلَّا بَابَهُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، وَأَعْطَاهُ الرَّايَةَ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ.

✧ We used to say in the time of the Prophet ﷺ: The Messenger of Allah is the best of people, then Abu Bakr, then 'Umar. And Ibn Abi Talib was given three qualities; if I had even one of them it would be dearer to me than red camels: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married his daughter to him and she bore him a child; he closed the doors [of the mosque] except his door; and he gave him the banner on the day of Khaybar.
