✧ My family married me to a Byzantine slave woman of theirs. She bore me a black boy like me. A Byzantine slave named Yuhannas became attached to her and would speak to her in Byzantine. She became pregnant, and she had already borne me a black boy like me. Then she came with a boy as if he were a gecko of the geckos. I said to her: What is this? She said: He is from Yuhannas. I asked Yuhannas and he confessed. I came to Uthman b. al-Affan and mentioned that to him. He sent for both of them and questioned them, then said: I shall judge between you with the judgment of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: the child belongs to the bed, and for the fornicator is the stone. So he attached the child to me. He said: And he had both of them flogged. She later bore me a black boy.
