✧ Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hunayn. The people turned away from him and abandoned him, while eighty men from the Muhajirun and Ansar remained steadfast with him. We were being attacked from all sides, and we were retreating with our feet over a distance of about eighty feet and they did not give up their backs. They were the ones whom Allah, the Almighty, revealed tranquility upon. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was riding on his riding animal, moving forward when it tripped and tilted his saddle. I said to him, 'May Allah raise you high.' He then said, 'Give me a handful of dust.' He struck their faces with it and their eyes were filled with dust. Then he said, 'Where are the Muhajirun and Ansar?' I said, 'They are here.' He said, 'Call out to them.' So I called out to them, and they came, with their swords in their hands, as if they were meteors, and the pagans turned their back in retreat."
