  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

machine translationAnd Abū ʿUbaydah did not hear from his father.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 4178
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationAbū Isḥāq narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Idrīs al-Awdī and Mūsā b. ʿUqbah narrated it and traced the whole sermon back to the Prophet ﷺ. Shuʿbah, Isrāʾīl and Sharīk narrated it as the words of ʿAbdullāh, except for his saying: "Shall I not inform you what the ʿiḍah is? It is slander (namīmah)", which they traced back to the Prophet ﷺ, and likewise his saying: "A man keeps speaking the truth until he is recorded as truthful (ṣiddīq)." The position of Shuʿbah and those who followed him is more likely to be correct.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 4178
