حَدَّثَنَا يَعْلَى حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ ذَرٍّ عَنِ الْعَيْزَارِ مِنْ تِنْعَةَ أَنَّ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ

إِذَا وُجِّهَتِ اللَّعْنَةُ تَوَجَّهَتْ إِلَى مَنْ وُجِّهَتْ إِلَيْهِ، فَإِنْ وَجَدَتْ فِيهِ مَسْلَكًا، وَوَجَدَتْ عَلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا أَحَلَّتْ بِهِ، وَإِلَّا حَارَتْ إِلَى رَبِّهَا فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَبِّ، إِنَّ فُلَانًا وَجَّهَنِي إِلَى فُلَانٍ، وَإِنِّي لَمْ أَجِدْ عَلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا، وَلَمْ أَجِدْ فِيهِ مَسْلَكًا، فَمَا تَأْمُرُنِي؟ فَقَالَ: ارْجِعِي مِنْ حَيْثُ جِئْتِ.

Translation

✧ When a curse is sent, it turns to the one it was sent against. If it finds a way in him or a path against him, it settles on him. Otherwise, it returns to its Lord and says: "O Lord, so-and-so directed me against so-and-so, but I found no path against him and no way in him, so what do you command me?" He says: "Return whence you came."
