حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي غَارٍ، فَنَزَلَتْ: وَالْمُرْسَلاتِ عُرْفًا قَالَ: فَإِنَّا نَتَلَقَّاهَا مِنْ فِيهِ، فَخَرَجَتْ حَيَّةٌ مِنْ جُحْرِهَا فَابْتَدَرْنَاهَا فَسَبَقَتْنَا، فَدَخَلَتْ جُحْرَهَا فَقَالَ: وُقِيَتْ شَرَّكُمْ كَمَا وُقِيتُمْ شَرَّهَا.

Translation

✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a cave, and 'By those sent forth in succession' (Surat al-Mursalat) was revealed. He said: We were receiving it from his mouth, when a snake came out of its hole. We rushed toward it, but it beat us and entered its hole. He said: 'It was protected from your evil just as you were protected from its evil.'
