✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ taught me Surah al-Ahqaf, and he taught it to another man, who differed with me in a verse. So I said to him: 'Who taught you this?' He said: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ.' Then I came to him while he was among a group of people and said: 'O Messenger of God, did you not teach me such-and-such a verse?' He said: 'Yes.' I said: 'This man claims that you taught it to him as such-and-such.' The face of the Messenger of God ﷺ changed, and the man who was with him said: 'Let each of you recite as he heard, for those before you were destroyed only by disagreement.' He said: By God, I do not know whether the Messenger of God ﷺ commanded him to say that or he said it himself.
