حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا وَائِلٍ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ

بِئْسَمَا لِأَحَدِكُمْ، أَوْ بِئْسَمَا لِأَحَدِهِمْ أَنْ يَقُولَ: نَسِيتُ آيَةَ كَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ، بَلْ هُوَ نُسِّيَ؛ اسْتَذْكِرُوا الْقُرْآنَ، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَهُوَ أَشَدُّ تَفَصِّيًا مِنْ صُدُورِ الرِّجَالِ مِنَ النَّعَمِ مِنْ عُقُلِهَا.

Translation

✧ How evil it is for one of you, or how evil it is for one of them, to say: 'I forgot a verse such-and-such.' Rather, he was made to forget. Recall the Quran, for by the One in whose hand is my soul, it is more prone to slip away from the hearts of men than camels from their tethers.
