✧ I went out at dawn to water a horse of mine and passed by the mosque of Banu Hanifa while they were saying: 'Musaylima is the Messenger of Allah.' I came to Abdullah and told him. He sent the police, and they brought them. He asked them to repent, and they repented, so he released them. But he struck the neck of Abdullah b. al-Nawwaha. They said: 'You took a people for one matter, yet you killed some and left others?' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when this man and Ibn Uthal b. Hajar came to him. He said: "Do you both testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?" They said: "We testify that Musaylima is the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet ﷺ said: "I believe in Allah and His messengers. Were I to kill a delegation, I would kill you two." So for that reason I killed him.'

machine translationʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Al-Thawrī, al-Masʿūdī and Sallām Abū al-Mundhir narrated it from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbdullāh. Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh differed from them, and narrated it from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Wāʾil, from Abū Muʿayr al-Saʿdī, from Ibn Masʿūd. Haytham al-Dūrī related this report from a shaykh of his, from Abū ʿĀṣim, from al-Thawrī, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Wāʾil, and that is an error (wahm); the correct version is from al-Thawrī, from ʿĀṣim.
