Translation

✧ While Ibn Masud was delivering a sermon one day, he noticed a snake walking on the wall. He interrupted his sermon, struck it with his staff—or with a reed; Yunus said: with his staff—until he killed it, then said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever kills a snake, it is as if he has killed a polytheist man whose blood is lawful."
