✧ Abdullah said, at the spot where Ibn al-Nawwāḥah was killed: “This man and Ibn Uthāl had come to the Prophet ﷺ as the two messengers of Musaylimah the Liar. The Messenger of God ﷺ said to them: ‘Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of God?’ They said: ‘We bear witness that Musaylimah is the Messenger of God!’ He said: ‘If I were to kill a messenger, I would strike off your necks.’” He said: “Thus a precedent was established that a messenger is not to be killed. As for Ibn Uthāl, God, Mighty and Majestic, took care of him for us. But as for this one, that matter remained in him until God gave us power over him just now.”

machine translationʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Al-Thawrī, al-Masʿūdī and Sallām Abū al-Mundhir narrated it from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbdullāh. Abū Bakr b. ʿAyyāsh differed from them, and narrated it from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Wāʾil, from Abū Muʿayr al-Saʿdī, from Ibn Masʿūd. Haytham al-Dūrī related this report from a shaykh of his, from Abū ʿĀṣim, from al-Thawrī, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Wāʾil, and that is an error (wahm); the correct version is from al-Thawrī, from ʿĀṣim.
