حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسٌ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا نَغْزُو مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْسَ لَنَا نِسَاءٌ، فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَلَا نَسْتَخْصِي؟ فَنَهَانَا عَنْ ذَلِكَ.

Translation

✧ We used to go on military expeditions with the Messenger of God ﷺ and we had no women with us, so we said: O Messenger of God, should we not castrate ourselves? He forbade us from that.
