✧ We used to greet the Prophet ﷺ while we were in Makkah, before we went to the land of Abyssinia. When we returned from the land of Abyssinia, we came to him and greeted him, but he did not respond. I was disturbed by what was near and far until the prayer was completed. I asked him, and he said: “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, brings about in His command whatever He wills, and He has brought about in His command that we should not speak during the prayer.”

machine translationA group of the imams narrated it from ʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd, and the jurists have circulated it. However, the two authors of the Ṣaḥīḥ avoid narrations of ʿĀṣim because of his poor memory (sūʾ ḥifẓ), so they recorded it by another route with some of its meaning.
