حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الطُّفَيْلِ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ
قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ حَدِّثْنِي عَنِ الرُّكُوبِ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ، فَإِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ. فَقَالَ: صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا. قُلْتُ: [مَا ] صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا مَاذَا ؟ قَالَ: قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ فَخَرَجُوا حَتَّى خَرَجَتِ الْعَوَاتِقُ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا يُضْرَبُ عِنْدَهُ أَحَدٌ، فَرَكِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَطَافَ وَهُوَ رَاكِبٌ، وَلَوْ نَزَلَ لَكَانَ الْمَشْيُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ

✧ I said to Ibn Abbas: “Tell me about riding between al-Safa and al-Marwah, for your people claim it is a sunnah.” He said: “They speak both truth and falsehood.” I said: “What do you mean they speak both truth and falsehood?” He said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Makkah, and people went out until even the young women came out. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not like anyone to be struck in his presence, so he rode, circled while riding. Had he dismounted, walking would have been dearer to him.”
