حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا إِسْحَاقَ يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ قَوْلِ الرَّجُلِ بِإِصْبَعِهِ هَكَذَا - يَعْنِي فِي الصَّلَاةِ -، قَالَ: ذَاكَ الْإِخْلَاصُ. وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: لَقَدْ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالسِّوَاكِ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ سَيُنْزَلُ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ. وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْجُدُ حَتَّى يُرَى بَيَاضُ إِبْطَيْهِ

✧ I asked Ibn ʿAbbās about a man's saying with his finger thus – meaning in the prayer. He said: "That is sincerity." And Ibn ʿAbbās said: "The Messenger of God ﷺ commanded us with the siwāk so much that we thought something would be revealed to him about it. And I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ prostrating until the whiteness of his armpits could be seen."
