✧ When the Messenger of God ﷺ was dying, and there were men in the house, including Umar b. al-Khattab, the Prophet ﷺ said: "Come, let me write for you a document after which you will never go astray." Umar said: "The Messenger of God ﷺ is overcome by pain, and you have the Quran; the Book of God is sufficient for us." The people of the house differed and disputed. Some said: "Bring [something] so he may write for you a document after which you will not go astray," while others said what Umar said. When the clamor and disagreement increased in the presence of the Messenger of God ﷺ, the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Leave." Ubayd Allah said: Ibn Abbas used to say: "The calamity, the whole calamity, is what came between the Messenger of God ﷺ and his writing that document for them: their disagreement and clamor."
