✧ Gabriel led me in prayer at the House. He prayed the noon prayer with me when the sun had passed its zenith, and it was the length of a sandal-strap. Then he prayed the afternoon prayer with me when the shadow of every object was equal to it. Then he prayed the sunset prayer with me when the fasting person breaks his fast. Then he prayed the night prayer with me when the twilight had disappeared. Then he prayed the dawn prayer with me when food and drink became forbidden for the fasting person. Then on the next day he prayed the noon prayer with me when the shadow of every object was equal to it. Then he prayed the afternoon prayer with me when the shadow of every object was twice its length. Then he prayed the sunset prayer with me when the fasting person breaks his fast. Then he prayed the night prayer with me until the first third of the night had passed. Then he prayed the dawn prayer with me when it had brightened. Then he turned to me and said: O Muḥammad, this is the time of the prophets before you. The time is between these two times.
