✧ He came to Syria and entered the mosque of Damascus, prayed two rak'ahs in it, and said: O God, provide me with a righteous companion. He said: Then he came and sat next to Abu al-Darda'. Abu al-Darda' said to him: From which people are you? He said: From the people of Kufa. He said: How did you hear Ibn Umm 'Abd recite "By the night when it covers, and the day when it appears"? 'Alqama said: "And the male and the female"? Abu al-Darda' said: I heard it from the Messenger of God ﷺ, but these people did not cease until they made me doubt. Then he said: Was there not among you the companion of the cushion, and the companion of the secret whom no one knows but him, and the one who was protected from Satan on the tongue of the Prophet ﷺ? The companion of the cushion is Ibn Mas'ud, the companion of the secret is Hudhayfa, and the one protected from Satan is 'Ammar.
