✧ Marwan sent 'Abd Allah b. 'Utbah to Subay'ah bint al-Harith to ask her about what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had ruled for her. She informed him that she had been married to Sa'd b. Khawlah, who died during the Farewell Pilgrimage, and he had been a participant at Badr. She gave birth before four months and ten days had elapsed from his death. Abu al-Sanabil - meaning Ibn Ba'kak - met her when she had recovered from her postpartum bleeding and had applied kohl. He said to her: 'Slow down' - or something similar - 'perhaps you want to remarry. It is four months and ten days from your husband's death.' She said: 'I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned to him what Abu al-Sanabil b. Ba'kak had said. The Prophet ﷺ said to her: 'You have become lawful when you gave birth.'
