حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ عَنْ الْعَيْزَارِ بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ الْحُصَيْنِ الْأَحْمَسِيَّةَ قَالَتْ
رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ عَلَيْهِ بُرْدٌ قَدِ الْتَفَعَ بِهِ مِنْ تَحْتِ إِبْطِهِ، فَأَنَا أَنْظُرُ إِلَى عَضَلَةِ عَضُدِهِ تَرْتَجُّ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ، اتَّقُوا اللهَ، وَأَطِيعُوا وَإِنْ أُمِّرَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَبْدٌ حَبَشِيٌّ مُجَدَّعٌ، فَاسْمَعُوا وَأَطِيعُوا مَا أَقَامَ فِيكُمْ كِتَابَ اللهِ.

✧ I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ in the Farewell Pilgrimage wearing a striped cloak that he had wrapped around himself from under his armpit, and I was looking at the muscle of his upper arm trembling while he was saying: O people, fear God and obey, even if a mutilated Abyssinian slave is placed in command over you, then listen and obey as long as he upholds among you the Book of God.
