machine translationKathīr b. Kathīr b. al-Muṭṭalib b. Abī Wadāʿah narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Sālim b. ʿAbdillāh al-Khayyāṭ al-Baṣrī and Zuhayr b. Muḥammad narrated it from Kathīr b. Kathīr, from his father, from his grandfather. Ibn Jurayj narrated it from Kathīr, and there is disagreement about him as well: Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Umawī and Abū Usāmah narrated it from Ibn Jurayj, from Kathīr b. Kathīr, from his father, from al-Muṭṭalib. Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Ḍarīr narrated it from Ibn Jurayj and said, "from Kathīr b. Abī Kathīr", but it is only Kathīr b. Kathīr, and he said, "from the sons of al-Muṭṭalib b. Abī Wadāʿah, from their father". Ḥammād b. Zayd said, from Ibn Jurayj, from Kathīr b. Kathīr, he said: "The notables of the sons of al-Muṭṭalib narrated to me from al-Muṭṭalib." Likewise Muʿādh b. al-Muthannā said, from al-Muqaddamī, from Ḥammād. And Yūsuf al-Qāḍī said, from al-Muqaddamī, from Ḥammād, from Ibn Jurayj, from Kathīr b. Kathīr, from his father, he said: "The notables of the sons of al-Muṭṭalib narrated to me from al-Muṭṭalib." Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated it from Kathīr b. Kathīr, from some of his family, from his grandfather al-Muṭṭalib. Ibn ʿUyaynah said: Ibn Jurayj at first narrated to us from Kathīr, from his father, from al-Muṭṭalib; but when I asked him about it, he said, "It is not from my father; rather some of my family told me of it, having heard it from al-Muṭṭalib." Al-Ḥumaydī said that from Ibn ʿUyaynah and he recorded it accurately. The statement of Ibn ʿUyaynah is the most correct of them.
