✧ When Ali came to Basra, he sent for him and said, “What prevents you from following me?” He said, “My close friend and your cousin advised me, saying, ‘There will be division and conflict, so break your sword and take a sword of wood, and stay in your house until an erring hand comes to you or a decisive death.’ So I did what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me. If you can, O Ali, avoid being that erring hand, then do so.”
