حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ قَالَتْ
خَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ فَقُلْتُ: مَا شَأْنُ النَّاسِ يُصَلُّونَ ؟ فَأَشَارَتْ بِرَأْسِهَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، فَقُلْتُ: آيَةٌ. قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ. فَأَطَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْقِيَامَ جِدًّا، حَتَّى تَجَلَّانِي الْغَشْيُ، فَأَخَذْتُ قِرْبَةً إِلَى جَنْبِي فَجَعَلْتُ أَصُبُّ عَلَى رَأْسِي الْمَاءَ. فَانْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ تَجَلَّتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَخَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَحَمِدَ اللهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: أَمَّا بَعْدُ، مَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ لَمْ أَكُنْ رَأَيْتُهُ إِلَّا قَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ فِي مَقَامِي هَذَا حَتَّى الْجَنَّةَ وَالنَّارَ، إِنَّهُ قَدْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّكُمْ تُفْتَنُونَ فِي الْقُبُورِ - قَرِيبًا أَوْ - مِثْلَ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ - لَا أَدْرِي أَيَّ ذَلِكَ قَالَتْ أَسْمَاءُ -، يُؤْتَى أَحَدُكُمْ فَيُقَالُ: مَا عِلْمُكَ بِهَذَا الرَّجُلِ ؟ فَأَمَّا الْمُؤْمِنُ - أَوِ الْمُوقِنُ. لَا أَدْرِي أَيَّ ذَلِكَ قَالَتْ أَسْمَاءُ - فَيَقُولُ: هُوَ مُحَمَّدٌ، هُوَ رَسُولُ اللهِ جَاءَنَا بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالْهُدَى فَأَجَبْنَا وَاتَّبَعْنَا، ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍ. فَيُقَالُ لَهُ: قَدْ كُنَّا نَعْلَمُ إِنْ كُنْتَ لَتُؤْمِنُ بِهِ، فَنَمْ صَالِحًا. وَأَمَّا الْمُنَافِقُ - أَوِ الْمُرْتَابُ. لَا يَدْرِي أَيَّ ذَلِكَ قَالَتْ أَسْمَاءُ - فَيَقُولُ: مَا أَدْرِي سَمِعْتُ النَّاسَ يَقُولُونَ شَيْئًا فَقُلْتُ

✧ The sun eclipsed in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I entered upon ‘A’ishah and said, "What is the matter with the people that they are praying?" She gestured with her head toward the sky. I said, "A sign?" She said, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prolonged the standing very much, until I became faint. I took a water skin beside me and began to pour water on my head. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished, and the sun had cleared. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon. He praised and extolled Allah, then said, "Now then, there is nothing I had not seen except that I have seen it in this station of mine, even Paradise and Hellfire. It has been revealed to me that you will be tested in the graves — close to, or like, the trial of the false messiah — I do not know which of these Asma’ said. One of you will be approached and asked, ‘What is your knowledge of this man?’ As for the believer — or the certain one, I do not know which of these Asma’ said — he will say, ‘He is Muhammad, he is the Messenger of Allah, he came to us with clear proofs and guidance, so we responded and followed,’ three times. Then it will be said to him, ‘We already knew that you believed in him, so sleep righteously.’ As for the hypocrite — or the doubter, she does not know which of these Asma’ said — he will say, ‘I do not know; I heard the people saying something, so I said it.’"
