حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ابْنِ ابْنَةِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهَا أَنَّ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ
مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يُصَابُ بِمُصِيبَةٍ فَيَقُولُ: إِنَّا لِلهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ اؤْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي، وَاخْلُفْ عَلَيَّ بِخَيْرٍ مِنْهَا، إِلَّا فُعِلَ بِهِ ذَلِكَ. قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ هَذَا فَأَجَرَنِي اللهُ فِي مُصِيبَتِي، فَمَنْ يَخْلُفُ عَلَيَّ مَكَانَ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ. فَلَمَّا انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا خَطَبَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

✧ There is no Muslim who is afflicted with a calamity and says: 'Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. O Allah, reward me in my calamity and compensate me with something better than it,' except that it will be done for him. She said: So I said this, and Allah rewarded me in my calamity. Who could compensate me with better than Abu Salamah? Then when her waiting period ended, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proposed to her.
