✧ Abū Hurayrah and Ibn ‘Abbās differed concerning a woman whose husband died when she gave birth. Abū Hurayrah said: She may marry. Ibn ‘Abbās said: The later of the two terms. He said: So they sent to Umm Salamah, and she said: The husband of Subay‘ah bint al-Ḥārith died, and she gave birth fifteen nights [half a month] after his death. He said: Then two men proposed to her. He said: She leaned toward one of them, and when they feared she might act on her own toward one of them, they said: You are not lawful yet. So she went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: You have become lawful, so marry whomever you wish.
