حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَأَى مَخِيلَةً يَعْنِي الْغَيْمَ تَلَوَّنَ وَجْهُهُ وَتَغَيَّرَ، وَدَخَلَ وَخَرَجَ، وَأَقْبَلَ وَأَدْبَرَ، فَإِذَا مَطَرَتْ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: فَذَكَرَتْ لَهُ عَائِشَةُ بَعْضَ مَا رَأَتْ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ: وَمَا يُدْرِينِي لَعَلَّهُ كَمَا قَالَ قَوْمُ عَادٍ: فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ عَارِضًا مُسْتَقْبِلَ أَوْدِيَتِهِمْ قَالُوا هَذَا عَارِضٌ مُمْطِرُنَا بَلْ هُوَ مَا اسْتَعْجَلْتُمْ بِهِ رِيحٌ فِيهَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Translation

✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw a cloud—meaning the sign of rain—his face would change color and he would become restless, going in and out, coming and going. Then when it rained, that would leave him. He said: Aishah mentioned to him some of what she had seen from him, and he said: 'What would make me know? Perhaps it is as the people of 'Ad said: "Then when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said: This is a cloud bringing us rain. Rather, it is what you sought to hasten: a wind in which is a painful punishment."'
