✧ Abu Hudhayfah adopted Salim as a son, who was a freed slave of a woman from the Ansar, just as the Prophet ﷺ adopted Zayd. In the pre-Islamic period, whoever adopted a man, people called him his son and he inherited from his estate, until Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: Call them by their fathers' names; that is more just in the sight of Allah. And if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in religion and your clients. So they were returned to their fathers. Whoever had no known father, he was a client and a brother in religion. Then Sahlah came and said: O Messenger of Allah, we used to regard Salim as a son, and he would stay with me and with Abu Hudhayfah, and he would see me in a state of undress. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has revealed about them what you know. He said: Breastfeed him five times, and he became like a son through breastfeeding.
