حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَجْلَحِ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الْأَصَمِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ رَجُلًا قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا شَاءَ اللهُ وَشِئْتَ، فَقَالَ: جَعَلْتَنِي لِلهِ عِدْلًا، بَلْ مَا شَاءَ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ

Translation

Chain of narrators

  2. Sufyān
  3. al-Ajlaḥ
  4. Yazīd b. al-Aṣam
  5. Ibn ʿAbbās

✧ A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, whatever Allah wills and you will.' He said: 'You have made me a rival to Allah. Rather, say: Whatever Allah alone wills.'
